Why hiring a professional photographer for your wedding day is so important
This isn't going to be the type of blog that sells my services only, but to sell professional photographers, and professional services throughout the wedding industry all together.
Here are my personal top 5 reasons why booking a professional photographer is much more important than trying to do it yourself or paying someone a lot less with the chance of it all going very wrong!
1. Peace of Mind
Weddings can be stressful at the best of times, and on the day you want it to be totally perfect. But in this day and age, everyone has a camera; be it a smartphone, DSLR, Polaroid, Compact cameras you name it, someone has it. This isn't such a bad thing for those times you need it quickly like a casual selfie, but lets be honest, a wedding isn't a place for an iPhone and this is where the professionals come in.
Over the past 5 years I have had the opportunity to witness nearly 100 weddings and every client has come back to me and said they knew booking a professional photographer was the best choice on the day. Putting it simply, we know exactly what we are doing, and we can take all your stress and worry away from you before, and on the day.
2. You get what you pay for
Like most things in life, the more you spend the better it is and that is exactly the same with wedding photography. It is very easy to push your budget and spend that extra £100 on that forth tier on the cake but we all know that cake won't last forever.
The one thing I have understood from working in the industry is that as soon as the word 'wedding' is mentioned the price goes up and this confuses clients, but being a wedding photographer is far from what some might think as so much is involved.
You can do it on a budget, but I personally wouldn't recommend it as so many couples who have enquired with myself have come back to me and wished they spent that extra money and booked me at the very beginning and saved money elsewhere.
3. It isn't just about the camera
Yes, the camera does make a difference I cannot deny this, but not nearly as important as the person holding it. Cameras can create beautiful images with all their different settings and uses, but it is the photographer using it that alters the composition, corrects the lighting, iso, white balance, shutter speed, flash settings and so on to make those beautiful images you will forever cherish.
'Uncle Bob' may have that extra expensive Dslr but does he know how to use it? Just some food for thought...
4. They have the experience.
As mentioned above, I have witnessed nearly 100 weddings now and from doing so you learn just how weddings work. You have many varieties of weddings; churches, community halls, barns, beaches and so on. 'Uncle Bob' might know how to use his camera but he will most likely be inexperienced with how weddings take place and their formats.
Professional wedding photographers do this week in, week out and have learned their trade to better their work and make sure their clients are as happiest as they can be. A professional wedding photographer also sees many more photo opportunities on the day as they are less distracted by guests and alcohol.
5. You only have one chance at it.
I often get asked "How can you photograph weddings and not worry about it" and this is exactly what goes through most photographers minds before the big day. Weddings are often the most important moment of anyone's lives and this shouldn't be taken lightly.
When booking a professional photographer, you are passing on all responsibilities to them and trusting in them to capture your day as amazing as you remembered it. You only have one chance to get it right and all professional wedding photographers know how important that is to the couple and do everything they can to make sure this is the case..
So there you have it! I hope this has helped you make your decision about booking a professional photographer for your own wedding, and has given you a better understanding why booking professional is so much better than 'Uncle Bob'.
