We had the most fantastic time, Lisa had arranged to meet with us, as well as organising for the most beautiful model, Josie, to join us for the ultimate pamper session. We just couldn’t wait to sit down and have a catch up with Lisa and find out more about the business.

Lisa Caldognetto Makeup’s focus is on making you look and feel your best for all occasions and most importantly, feeling like YOU, on your wedding day. Lisa has such a calming, friendly and relaxed personality that you just know in an instant she is popular with all of her brides and clients. A real people person!

We wanted to find out from Lisa just how she found herself working in the wedding industry:

[Lisa]: “I have worked in the makeup industry for 12 years, for big brands including MAC, on many red-carpet events and I still now, continue to work at London Fashion Week. I wanted to focus on working with more Brides and other beauty and commercial makeup work.

I have a creative background (It must be the Italian blood!) and a true passion for fashion and I believe makeup is a tool and accessory that allows you to express yourself and make you feel at your best.”

When working with her brides, Lisa loves to build a relationship so she can work on creating that individual look and works with them collaboratively to create something they love. So, when you look in the mirror you will see the absolute best version of yourself.

It sounds so dreamy right? We just couldn’t wait to get started with Josie our model and let Lisa loose with her incredible skills.

Whilst we had been chatting, Nicole, who is one of the many talented bridal hair stylists at Melanie Giles, had created the perfect hair style to compliment Lisa’s work. The team at Melanie Giles not only have the most stunning salon in Frome but also two others, in Bath and Bradford-on-Avon and are renowned for their expert bridal hair.

Why is it so important for a bride to find the perfect makeup artist and what exactly should they be looking for?

[Lisa]: “It is crucial that as a bride, you like a makeup artists work and that you feel comfortable around them, because, on your Wedding day you want to feel your best.

When searching for an MUA, first, look for someone with experience, as your Wedding day pictures will be around forever. So find someone with a knowledge of knowing how to make the makeup last, look good on camera along with the type of brands in their kit. The rate you pay for a makeup artist will reflect all their training, experience, insurance and quality of their kit.”

That’s a really interesting point Lisa, as we see so many questions about differences in pricing and the reasons for this!

[Lisa]: “Also, word of mouth is the best, so ask your hairdresser, nail technician, wedding venue and any friends who have recently got married. Social media is a great place to search as well as google. Facebook is useful as you can see the reviews from previous clients.”

We wanted to know what were the most frequent questions Lisa gets asked at consultations and she explained that often brides tend to be unsure of which colours best suit them and how to enhance their eyes. Eyes are often the most liked featured by many, so making the most of them is always important.

[Lisa]: “In the age of social media and how it plays such a big part of all of our lives, it is so easy to get influenced by so much, which for the most part is so overwhelming, especially as a Bride. I utilised Pinterest like no ones business to help plan my own wedding day. But remember, your own individuality is beautiful itself so do not feel like to you must have the latest trend or to hide features that make you, you. “

Lisa’s working style is relaxed and personable. It’s clear to see she believes that everyone is different and unique and she loves hearing about your story and understanding who you are as a person and developing this into her work.

Most experienced makeup artists, including the lovely Lisa, are now getting booked up 1-2 years in advance, so be sure to consider this with your own wedding plans. Lisa offers a trial that lasts anything from 2-3 hours which includes a run through of your wedding makeup and a chance to chat through exactly what you require to create your perfect wedding day look.

Amongst many other cheeky questions about skin care and makeup advice in the interview (We couldn’t resist!) we also asked Lisa to provide some top tips for us all to consider when planning our overall makeup look.

[Lisa]: “Many Brides search for a flawless look and bronzer is a great way to create a natural shape. Imagine placing an oval over your face and to apply the bronzer lightly on the areas outside of that oval. Then highlight using a cream based product like, MAC hush cream colour, on the higher planes of the face; Touch your face and apply on the cheek and above the brow where you can feel the bone.

Everyone should have a good cleanser or two. I am a firm believer in the double cleanse, using the Body Shop Camomile cleansing balm, followed by the Vitamin E cleanser. These break down your makeup and oil well on the skin (which are also suitable for all skin types!)”

What about skin regimes Lisa, what would you recommend?

[Lisa]: “A glycolic acid toner works on all skin types, exfoliates and softens the skin so making it perfect to apply makeup, I use Pixi Glow Tonic.

Use a serum with hyaluronic acid for a normal, sensitive to dry skin and one with AHA Serum for oily skin which reduces the size of pores, The Ordinary do a great an affordable range.

Retinol Serum is a Vitamin A derivative, I apply this at night, it is anti-ageing, plumps skin and reduces pore size. Good skincare is essential to having the best-looking skin with makeup on it, either start getting facials 6 months before the Wedding or consult with your makeup artist to get advice on what products to get.”

Lisa certainly is fountain of knowledge! (Yes, we did ask her to come home and live with us)

We asked what Lisa’s personal favorite product was and she couldn’t decide on just one! It was a toss up between Caudalie Beauty Elixir, a spray toner that smells AMAZING, refreshes the skin and relaxes everyone, OR the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look In A Palette, which is the PERFECT Bridal collection of colours for the eyes, cheeks, bronzer and blusher; The powders blend well and looks beautiful on everyone, it channels the inner goddess perfectly.

Before we knew it, the hair and makeup for our shoot was finished and our model Josie looked perfectly devine! Don’t you agree?

The lovely Jess, our Official Wedding Reporter photographer from Jessica Hill Photography joined us and she managed to snap some truly brilliant images for us all. Aren’t they fantastic?

Before we wrapped things up, we asked Lisa if there was any exciting news we could share:

[Lisa]: “I do weekly Facebook live makeup tutorial videos on a Tuesday at 8pm and you are more than welcome to come join me there “

(Yup we’re in!)

Also, a fellow hair stylist and I are planning a Bridal hair and makeup seminars for Brides wishing to do their own. We will be teaching all of the insider techniques, so you can feel confident in recreating it for your big day. Feel free to be in the know of the up and coming dates via my social media pages below.“

A big thank you to Lisa for taking the time to meet us and also to our beautiful model Josie along with Melanie Giles for having us at their truly stunning salon.

We will be back with the next edition of The Wedding Reporters!

Lots of love, TWE team xx
