The Bridal Reloved boutique began its journey five years ago when Kate Atkinson, the creator, was desperately trying to sell her own wedding gown and like many other newly married brides, found it a real challenge. Here, she spotted a huge gap in the market, so Kate grabbed her opportunity and opened her own Bridal Store, specialising in preloved designer dresses. It is now the UK’s largest pre-loved wedding dress chain with franchises dotted across the UK.

This is where the third edition of The Wedding Reporter kicks off, as we burst (quietly of course) through the newly opened, freshly painted doors of Bridal Reloved Street (Somerset) to meet Hannah Withers.

Situated at the Walton end of the High Street, it is perfectly placed, only a minutes’ walk from the nearest carpark, (which may we add is the cheapest we’ve known in years £1.30 for 4 hours!? HELL YES!) and it’s also very central to town.

The store has only been open for three weeks so you could be forgiven for expecting the store to feel “new” but nothing could be further from the truth. None of that “new paint smell”, no unfinished jobs or one single box in sight! There is a really elegant and chic feel to the muted décor and more importantly, a feeling of relaxation as you walk through the door, perfect for any nervous bride!

Rails of preloved designer gowns by designers such as Jenny Packham, Vera Wang and Claire Pettibone are just waiting to be chosen. The boutique is simply gorgeous, offering you a real WOW moment. We noticed the eye catching window display frequently stopping passersby, each taking a moment to admire the stunning gowns.

Hannah couldn’t have been more welcoming as we arrived and our attention was quickly drawn by the most beautiful show stopping gown arranged in the very middle of the boutique. There were many oohs and aahs and lots of rummaging through rails of dresses to find “the one” before we finally sat down for a chat!

After a much awaited catch up with Hannah, we soon discovered that she had previously been a secondary school teacher and we just had to know what prompted such a career change!

[Hannah] “I found it was having a huge impact on my work/life balance, so I decided something had to change. After a lot of thinking about what else I could do and a lack of enthusiasm for an office job, I was always drawn back to my love of all things wedding related. I loved every minute of getting married and I just wanted to be part of that industry”. Hannah had even purchased her own wedding dress through Bridal Reloved two years ago.

Hannah’s love of everything wedding echoes throughout the boutique with the Rose Gold vases and beautiful flowers adorning tables and window sills. Her enthusiasm for the industry shines through as she tells us “It’s such an honour to be part of such a special moment, helping a bride choose her dream dress – you can’t help but be happy when you love what you are doing!”

Why is Bridal Reloved different to other Wedding Dress Boutiques?

[Hannah] “Brides can purchase a pre-loved designer dress without the large price tag. They don’t have to compromise on style to fit their budget, our gowns are priced from £400 to £1800. We do only accept designer gowns for resale and they must be in excellent condition and ideally have been cleaned. However, we can offer that service if necessary.”

FUN FACT: Bridal Reloved also have a classified website which helps previous brides wanting to sell their wedding dresses that may not be suitable for the stores. You can find that here at www.bridealreloved.co.uk/classifieds

Of course, we wanted to know what is the most common question asked by brides?

[Hannah] “Can it be altered to fit me? The answer is a most definite YES. I have a seamstress available to make necessary alterations. It can be a worry with a pre-loved dress as whilst we are not limited with designers, of course we usually just have one dress, in one size, of a particular design.”

As we sat discussing different venues, themes and dress styles, it’s clear she has a real feel of what dresses will and won’t work for a bride and not just on style but really thinking through the practicalities of certain style of dresses within different venues! [Hannah] “I like to ask questions about their wedding plans and get a feel for the day. A dress shouldn’t inhibit a bride, someone with a woodland wedding in a forest, may not want a large dress that prevents them from walking easily.”

The body shape question…What guidance would you give?

[Hannah] “I will always advise on dresses that may suit but I really encourage brides to be open minded. I know from my own experience that your dream dress might not be the one you had always imagined. Wearing good underwear when searching for your dress is also important!

All of our appointments are private, there is no competing for space or privacy, so there is plenty of time to start with dresses that fit the original description, then pick out elements that work and other elements to avoid”.

Of course, sat surrounded by gorgeous gowns that we were just dying to try on, we wanted to know why finding the perfect dress is so important to a bride?

[Hannah] “We girls really do spend a long time imagining our wedding day. Reality should definitely live up to our dreams. It’s a reflection of who we are and an opportunity to look at our most beautiful – or at least that’s how I felt on my wedding day. Shop with an open mind and remember that our dresses can be altered.”

We asked Hannah what advice she would give our engaged brides looking to visit a bridal boutique to find their dream dress....

  1. Good underwear, maybe a nude colour and strapless bras can be very helpful to get a better feel of how the dress looks and feels.

  2. Bring people whose opinions you trust, but not too many so you don’t get overwhelmed and confused.

  3. No pressure, take the time to think about your choice. You’ll know how you feel in it.

Hannah’s manner is one of softly spoken calmness, she shows a real passion for the industry and we know that brides visiting her boutique will only receive the very best service as her love for every single dress shines through.

With so much beauty in the boutique we wanted to know if Hannah had a favourite?

[Hannah] “Now that is a tough question! I think my favourite has to be a stunning Justin Alexander A-line, tulle and lace dress; it’s elegant and regal and has been very popular on our social media pages too.

I know it’s not a wedding dress, but I do also love my amazing ‘rose wall’ in the store, it’s a perfect backdrop for an all-important selfie.”

We have to agree with you on this one Hannah, that wall is INCREDIBLE! Don't you agree?

What’s coming next for Bridal Reloved Street?

[Hannah] “We are in the process of arranging a photo shoot with other local suppliers which we are very excited about. We will also be arranging a series of ‘Bridal Styling nights’ at our Street store. These are mini wedding fairs where brides can come and meet suppliers in an intimate setting, with the opportunity to discuss their requirements - keep an eye on our social media pages for more info on these.”

This sounds very exciting and we know that Bridal Reloved have already starting building some great relationships with other local wedding professionals such as Somerset Wedding Camper Vans, Mundy’s of Street, The Silver Cake and Luce Loves Flowers and we cannot wait to watch the store grow!

A big thank you to Hannah for having us, we will be back with the next edition of The Wedding Reporters!

Lots of love, TWE team xx
